Accessibility
The Akademie building on Hanseatenweg is accessible by public transportation. To make it easier for visitors with disabilities to access this location, we recommend using the VBB bus and train assistance service provided by Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg.
There are three parking spaces for people with disabilities in the main parking lot (cobblestone) on Bartningallee. The distance from there to the Akademie der Künste’s main entrance is approximately 150 m. The walking route to the entrance is easily passable with some minor restrictions. The ground is covered in slate slabs that are slightly uneven in places. There are three steps down to the entrance. A ramp with a 5 % slope is available on the right side of the building.
There are still no automatic entrance doors. However, reception personnel are aware of the situation and can provide assistance if required. If you encounter any problems, you can contact the reception personnel by phone: +49 (0)30 200 57 2000.
Tickets are sold next to the reception desk. The café and the Akademie’s bookshop are on the left. The reception desk is 83 cm high at its lowest point. The flooring inside the building is also made of slate slabs on the ground floor. The Studio Lobby is carpeted.
Wheelchairs, walking aids and pushchairs can be left in an unattended area outside the exhibition halls. Wheelchairs and portable folding stools may be borrowed (please enquire at the reception desk).
The café, bookshop and event spaces are on the ground floor. All of the doors are double doors. The active door panel is 85 cm wide. If the second (unlocked) doorway is opened, the available opening is 180 cm wide. The event space (Studio) includes both a large (“Großes Parkett”) and a smaller space (“Kleines Parkett”). The Großes Parkett space is accessible without steps. There are six places, plus companion seats, in the back row for wheelchair users; the Kleines Parkett space is accessible by a platform lift. There are two places, plus companion seats, in the front row for wheelchair users.
The exhibition halls are located on the upper floor. The lift to the exhibition halls measures 200 x 100 cm with an access width of 87 cm. There is ample free space outside the lift.
An accessible, all-gender restroom is centrally located on the ground floor. Inside, there is a 120 x 120 cm area of movement in front of the door to the toilet. Behind the door (in the toilet cubicle) is a movement area of 160 x 180 cm in front of the toilet. There is 100 cm of space to the right of the toilet. There are hand grips to the left and right of the toilet. The right-hand grab rail is foldable. The two sinks are partially wheelchair-accessible. The mirror is not visible from a sitting position. There is an alarm trigger with a display and acoustics inside the toilet cubicle.
We strive to make information on accessibility transparent and are working to make our listed building even more accessible. If you have comments or questions, please feel free to contact us: inklusion@adk.de.

Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems
The high-performance ventilation and air conditioning systems in Akademie buildings operate with a 100 % fresh air supply, fine particle filters for removing germs and bacteria and UV air disinfection technology. Depending on the room, an air exchange frequency of three to eight times an hour is guaranteed. Air quality is monitored consistently, and filters are changed regularly.
