Sunny isn't Alone: Filmmakers and Their Networks

Frank Beyer, Manfred Krug and Konrad Wolf: three personalities whose work shaped cinema in both East and West. The writer Jurek Becker also ranks among the leading figures in cinematic storytelling in the second half of the 20th century. He authored novels that served as source material for films, as well as screenplays. The four artists were professionally linked through various projects, such as Professor Mamlock and Jakob der Lügner (Jakob the Liar); they were united by their pursuit of artistic freedom.

The Library of the Akademie der Künste is presenting a selection of books from the estate of these artists’ private collections, offering a glimpse into the library’s stacks. The books from the collections of Becker, Beyer, Krug and Wolf often refer to one another: dedications reveal their collegial and friendly relationships and networks.
