Book of Days is a film about time. Originally, it drew parallels between the Middle Ages, a time of war, plague, and fear of the apocalypse, and modern times of ethnic and religious conflict, the AIDS epidemic, and fear of nuclear annihilation. In light of recent events, the cyclical nature of such phenomena is once again apparent.

Although the film does not provide answers, it is dedicated to foresight and imagination, as well as a poetic invocation of what connects us. Book of Days was originally broadcast on the US television channel PBS, shown at the New York Film Festival, and selected for the Whitney Biennial. Meredith Monk will receive the Berlin Grand Art Prize in 2026.
