Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller

The installations by the Canadian artist couple Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller create multi-layered, multimedia impressions. Since the 1980s, they have been working together on the deconstruction of acoustic perception and illusionistic spaces. The artists fragment narratives that provoke irritations in the audiovisual experience. They collage images, objects, and audio material into works that mix memory, dreams and history as well as references to high and popular culture, drawing the audience into believable fictions. The reception of these space-acoustic narratives only emerges when the audiovisual works are walked through and viewed, drawing out very different reactions.
