Ellen Auerbach Fellowship: Ilit Azoulay
The Ellen Auerbach Fellowship for outstanding international photography has been awarded to Israeli artist Ilit Azoulay. The prize is based on the estate of German-American photographer Ellen Auerbach.
From the jury’s statement: “Ilit Azoulay is being honoured for her subtle, kaleidoscopic work, which uses photography in its original, genuine sense, to reveal the optically unconscious, to enlighten. In her often archival work, she records what could not be seen, interpreting history in the light of the now.”
Ilit Azoulay was born in Jaffa, has her roots in Morocco, and now lives in Berlin. Her sound work Heart to Heart will be presented as part of EMOP Berlin exhibition “what stands between us” (28 Feb – 4 Mai 2025).
