Berlin will be Berlin. Afred Kerr’s letters from Berlin for the Königsberger Allgemeine Zeitung
Alfred Kerr’s weekly chronicle from Berlin gives the city back another part of its past. Marcel Reich-Ranicki commented in 1997 when Kerr’s Berlin letters were first rediscovered: “The history of the German Feuilleton will have to be re-written.” By chance 25 more years of these weekly records of social and cultural history were rediscovered: Kerr’s Sunday letters for another newspaper, the Königsberger Allgemeine Zeitung from 1897 to 1922. Deborah Vietor-Engländer, who edited the letters, will present the four-volume edition and Ulrich Matthes will read a selection of the texts.
