Ellen Auerbach Fellowship

The Ellen Auerbach Fellowship is a development grant supporting young international photographers. Ellen Auerbach (1906–2004) instituted the fellowship after the Akademie’s 1998 exhibition Die Fotografin Ellen Auerbach (The Photographer Ellen Auerbach). The fellowship, which her estate finances, was first presented in 2006 to mark the centenary of Auerbach’s birth.

The 20,000-euro fellowship is awarded every two years. Candidates are recommended by Akademie members in the Visual Arts and Film and Media Arts Sections, by experts and international curators, and by a members’ jury, which makes the final selection. Applicants may not apply on their own initiative.
