„Künstler im Gespräch“ Photographs by Karin Gaa
The Akademie der Künste on Hanseatenweg was a hub for the West Berlin art scene. Architects, painters, actors, musicians and writers met there and exchanged views. From 1974 to 1990, the photographer Karin Gaa captured images of artists’ conversations that impressively convey the special atmosphere of this location through both their directness and casualness. Karin Gaa, Nele Hertling, Volker Schlöndorff and Hans Dieter Zimmermann talk about the history of West Berlin’s Akademie der Künste.
