At the opening of the Valeska Gert Guest Professorship, nora chipaumire will give the lecture “Nhaka: Art Making, the Animist Body, and Radical Black African Presences”. The dancer and choreographer critically addresses dance in the university context and explores self-examination, reflection, and transformation through physical manifesto. In conversation with Lucia Ruprecht, chipaumire discusses her artistic practice of Nhaka, exploring how this informs her decades of work in many university-led initiatives – often as the only artist of colour.
