Peter-André Alt
"Sigmund Freud. Der Arzt der Moderne. Eine Biographie"
The work of Sigmund Freud is almost unique in changing an entire era. A new major biography of Freud has been long overdue – and Peter-André Alt, literary scholar and president of FU Berlin, has now taken on that challenge. Drawing on unpublished material, he describes Freud’s life and the development of psychoanalysis. He depicts Freud as a selfcritical dogmatist, a Jewish atheist, a great writer and, not least, someone inwardly torn, whose knowledge of the vagaries of the mind came from his own dark night of the soul.
