DEMO:POLIS – Art in Public Space or Publicness as Art?
Since the 1990s, it seems that fewer and fewer sculptures have been installed in public spaces, while more site-specific interventions have been realized in their place. The publicness of city spaces are being transformed by means of passers-by, history (-ies) and localisation to works of art themselves. Numerous biennials, exhibitions and art actions break out of their traditional presentation spaces, preferring to take action in cityscapes worldwide. Is the great age of art in public spaces over?
A panel discussion with Jan Edler, Florian Matzner, Elfi Mikesch, Wermke/Leinkauf, Anna Witt. Opening remarks Birgit Hein. Moderation: Wulf Herzogenrath.
This event is part of the programme of the exhibtion "DEMO:POLIS - The Right to Public Space".
