Postponement of the Exhibition and Press Preview
Due to the acute risk associated with the corona virus, the Akademie der Künste has closed its exhibitions, archives, collections and library. All public events are cancelled until further notice.
The Press Preview for the John Heartfield retrospective planned for Thursday, 19 March and the Exhibition Opening planned for Friday, 20 March have been cancelled.
The exhibition at Pariser Platz will be postponed if possible.
Under the title KOSMOS HEARTFIELD a virtual presentation shows photos, documents and audiovisual material attesting to the artist's life and impact. The website presents individual works by Heartfield and illustrates his collaborative creative network, which included important contemporaries such as Bertolt Brecht, George Grosz, Wieland Herzfelde and Erwin Piscator. The presentation can be viewed online as of 20 March 2020: www.johnheartfield.de.
The extensive and internationally recognised graphic estate of this pioneer of photomontage is among the most prominent holdings of the Akademie der Künste's Art Collection. HEARTFIELD ONLINE, a comprehensive catalogue of more than 6,200 works from the Akademie's holdings, the artist's entire graphic oeuvre, can be explored online: www.heartfield.adk.de
In addition to original photomontages, designs for book covers and posters, it also includes stage designs, costume designs and a collection of source material that Heartfield compiled.
