Rolf Ricke
“Was ist denn das für eine Art?”
(“What kind of art is that?”)
Born in Kassel in 1934, Rolf Ricke gained a reputation for his leading role in presenting the key positions of post-war American art in Europe. In his first gallery in Kassel, opened in 1963, and later in Cologne, Rolf Ricke tirelessly and uncompromisingly provided a forum for the art he passionately believed in—initially Pop Art, and then the emerging art movements today categorised as Process Art, Conceptual Art or Minimal Art.
Welcome Address Klaus Staeck (t.b.c.); introductory talk by Christiane Meyer-Stoll on Rolf Ricke and his pioneering achievement in the reception of contemporary art since 1960. Irmela Roelcke plays from her recital programme of Bach and Kurtág. Gary Kuehn, David Reed and Pia Fries offer an insight into their work with Rolf Ricke during his gallery’s various phases. To conclude the evening, Rolf Ricke discusses the differences in the art trade past and present.
