Vita

Sinan Samanli is a freelance composer and computer musician who prefers the uncategorisable, which is symptomatic of his long-standing desire to shatter hostile stereotypes. The core of his musical approach was formed during his studies with Bernhard Lang and Beat Furrer. He has an MA in composition and has made a living from his artistic work in recent years thanks to commissions, grants and prizes.

Residency

In recent decades, the song duo voice/piano has struggled for contemporary relevance. In contrast, the reinterpretation of the piano as an instrument with vocal qualities has fascinated many contemporary composers, as shown by the innovative works of Peter Ablinger. Advances in the technology of digital live electronics offer new creative possibilities for tackling the central compositional problem of the voice/piano duo: the expressive synthesis of the human voice with the mechanical piano. These are the themes that I will bring to Berlin, and I am very excited to see what collaborations the fellowship will lead to.
