gruppe-aja is an architectural studio led by Alberte Hyttel, Julie Lecuelle, and Amalie Holm, founded in 2021. They met at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen during their studies and now operate the studio aja, which engages artistically, practically, and methodologically with surplus and reclaimed materials. Their work explores the intersection of resource consciousness and architectural quality, specialising in sketching and designing with the heterogeneity, patina, and limited supply options of surplus and reclaimed elements. gruppe-aja’s design approach emphasises direct reuse to save energy, leveraging early measurement and consideration of upcycled materials.

Residency

During our residency we will apply and develop our working method in the new context. We are always searching for materials to salvage or reclaim, but we never know what we will find and how we can use them to make an architectural statement. Our designs are, in a way, very unpredictable and dependent on what the urban mine has to offer.
