Martin Assig is a painter and draughtsman. Inspired by the ancient Egyptian technique of encaustic, he uses colour pigments bound in wax. His drawings are created on different sheet formats, in ascetic black and white, graphite grey or with an intense colouring. The works are abstract or figurative, made with wax crayon, pastel, pencil and coloured pencil, ink, watercolour, tempera or wax. The simple and pure hand drawings have today become a political statement against efficiency, the high velocity of everyday life, and the deficit of reality and emotion. Martin Assig finds inspiration in the self-reflexive process of drawing, in his memory, in quotations from art and literature, in cult objects and in votive pictures.
